The  Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said his administration is collaborating with the Federal Government to develop auto-gas fuelling stations across the state to reduce carbon emission.

The governor said this on Thursday while inaugurating the Ibile Oil and Gas Corporation Plant in Ikorodu.

He said, “The Ibile Oil and Gas Corporation Gas Plant being commissioned today reflects the desire of our administration to align with the global action to reduce considerably, carbon emission and invariably address the climate change challenge.

“One of the measures, which this gas plant will support, is to promote increased adoption of Liquefied Petroleum Gas for domestic use in Lagos state.

“This vision will be driven by Ibile Oil and Gas Corporation. Apart from gas for domestic project, the state government through IOGC is already collaborating with the Federal Government for the implementation of the gas for transport initiative. This initiative will lead to the development of autogas fueling stations across the state, which we believe will help in the further reduction of carbon emissions in the state.”

Sanwo-Olu said he believed the Federal Government would reverse the increasing cost of cooking gas in the country.

“I am not unaware of the current situation with regards to the high and increasing cost of cooking gas not only in Lagos State but also across the nation. This is totally unacceptable as we run a risk of reversing all the gains we have achieved over the years as a result of increased awareness by the populace on the advantages of using LPG for domestic cooking.

“I strongly believe that the Federal Government will do everything possible to reverse this trend and ensure availability and affordability of LPG for all Nigerian households,” he said.
