Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested five suspected kidnappers operating from a forest at Eleja, Obada Oko, in the Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Wednesday, said the suspects were arrested following information received by operatives that some kidnappers were seen on two motorcycles inside a forest in the Eleja area.

He said, “The suspects — Aliu Manya, Usman Abubakar, Abayomi Olayiwola, Nasiru Muhammad and Bello Usman — were arrested following information received by policemen attached to the Obada Oko divisional headquarters that the men were sighted on two motorcycles inside a forest at the Eleja area of Obada Oko around 8pm.

“Upon the information, the DPO, Obada Oko, CSP Tijani Muhammed, quickly mobilised his men and in conjunction with other stakeholders like the So-Safe Corps, hunters and local vigilantes, stormed the forest, where the five suspects were apprehended.

“Recovered from them were illicit drugs such as packs of tramadol, weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, three cutlasses and two motorcycles with number plates, MEK 504 VC and ODE 423 VC, as well as a cash sum of N73,000.

“While investigation was going on, a kidnap victim, who was earlier abducted and released, came forward to identify the suspects as those that kidnapped him. His brother, who took ransom to them, also identified two among the suspects as those who collected money from him for the release of his brother.”

Oyeyemi said the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, had ordered the transfer of the suspects to the anti-kidnapping unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.
