I dreamt of being a footballer since I was 5 – Onikoyi

Becoming a professional footballer has always been the dream of 16-year-old Moyosore Onikoyi since he was about five years old, when he tried on his first football boots.

Moyo as he is popularly called by friends and teammates was tipped to be the ‘next big thing’ in football by his coaches, friends and spectators who turn out to see him play mostly at the National Stadium Legacy pitch in Lagos.

He currently hones his skills with Lagos-based F8 Ballers.

There are millions of talented footballers everywhere in Nigeria and millions attacking midfielders but the teenager believes he is the best there is and is ready to go out there and take the world by storm when the time comes.

“I know there are lots of talented players in the country but I am one of a kind. Although a lot of people rave about how good and talented I am but I never let it get in my head because I know what I want for my future which is to become the best in my position.

Moyo said when it came to time to pick a sport he would love to spend about half of his life doing, he could only think of football as it was mainly what he believed he was very good at.

“It is one sport I love with all my heart and I decided to go for it at a tender age because I knew that with proper training I would be very good at it.”

Moyo who turned 16 on November 6, is setting his sights on one day playing for either Barcelona or Paris Saint-Germain just like his major role model Lionel Messi.

“(Laughs), I used to support Barcelona because of Lionel Messi but now that he’s at PSG, they have become my dream club.”

Although he adores Messi, he is also a huge fan of former and current Manchester City attacking midfielders, David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne.

“I love a lot of attacking midfielders but my role models when I talk about football are Lionel Messi, David Silva and Kevin De Brune. For the Nigerian national team I love Victor Osimhen and this is because of his work rate.

“I work really hard and that’s why I want to be like Osimhen. He is a striker but he loves coming back to help the midfielders and he never gives up.”

Moyo says the support of his parents is one of the driving factors in his career.

“My parents are really in support of my career. They are always there for me and they never stop encouraging me to get better. They get me everything I need to be successful and all I want to do is repay them in the future.”

Earlier in November, Moyo scored and created an assist in F8 Ballers 2-2 draw against Juventus Academy.

F8 Ballers described Moyo finishing abilities as creative during one of the Player of The Week nominations recently..
