Nigeria’s obsolete curriculum limiting innovation, tech development – Cleric

Posted by on November 28, 2021 0

The Senior Pastor, Christ Livingspring Apostolic Ministry, popularly known as CLAM, in Lagos, Wole Oladiyun, has called for an urgent review of the curriculum, especially at the tertiary education level.

Oladiyun, a civil engineer, said the current curriculum had become obsolete and was one of the reasons for Nigeria’s limited success in technology and innovation.

He lamented that this had also affected the quality of graduates from the institutions.

According to a statement on Thursday, Oladiyun, an alumnus of Business School Netherlands, where he earned his MBA, spoke at the thanksgiving service to round off a one-week apostolic revival tagged, ‘Solution Nights’.

He said, “Our educational curriculum needs to be changed or amended urgently to make it relevant to the contemporary needs of the country. There is no point in producing graduates that are not employable, as many of them lack the requisite skills that a modern society needs.

“Most of the courses students are forced to study in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions are grossly irrelevant, making them not fit-for-purpose.”

The cleric also cautioned parents against forcing courses on their children, saying they should rather focus on praying, mentoring, coaching and counselling their children.

Oladiyun said, “Allow them to evolve. Our lives are different from theirs. Let them follow their passion. There are gifts in every child. Let those gifts evolve. Don’t force them to take after you.”
