Ondo community laments deplorable state of Akure-Idanre road

Residents of Idanre Community in Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State have appealed to the State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, to fix the Idanre-Akure expressway.

The residents said the road has been in a deplorable condition, making transportation difficult for the people of the area, particularly the farmers.

A leader in the community, Anthony Omolola, who spoke on behalf of the community, made the appeal while speaking on Monday, concerning the preparation for the 45th coronation anniversary of the monarch of the town, Oba Frederick Aroloye.

Omolola, who is the chairman of the coronation anniversary, said the road had been abandoned in the last six years by the state government, adding that apart from the Akure-Idanre Road, all the roads to the various villages and towns in the area had become a death trap.

He said, “Most of the invited guests, including governors, eminent Obas from the South West and traditional rulers from other parts of the country, business leaders among others, who are coming to grace the anniversary will pass through Akure to Idanre and we don’t want a situation where that road would define their perception about the good work the governor is doing in Ondo State.”

The committee chairman, who said the Idanre people will appreciate the government’s quick intervention to put the road back to its normal state, also urged the state governor to consider the road in the 2022 budget.

According to him, the committee is aware of the enormous responsibility before the state government and the financial crisis affecting all three tiers of government. He pointed out that the Idanre community contributes significantly to the state government purse every year as revenue from taxes and levies on cocoa, timber, and other cash crops.

“Idanre contributes over N40billion annually to the Internally Generated Revenue (of the state) from the major cash crop in the community. The community that contributes that much to the economic life of the state, also deserves attention,” Omolola pleaded.
